The GESTRA blowdown valve PA46 is installed in pipelines for draining boiler water. The sludge shut-off valve is manually operated. The PA 46 sludge valve is used to drain off sludge-containing boiler water with non-metallic solids from steam generators. When opened, the valve abruptly releases a large outlet cross-section. This allows precipitated sludge to be discharged. The GESTRA PA types are designed for manual operation.

Bottom blowdown valves

Deposits build up very quickly at the bottom of industrial steam boilers.

The way to remove these deposits effectively is by very rapidly opening and closing a valve at the bottom of the boiler, this is called intermittent blowdown.

It is an extremely demanding application which requires a robust and reliable product.

The GESTRA bottom blowdown valve achieves this by opening very quickly, for just 2 seconds, producing a vacuum at the bottom of the boiler.

The resulting suction removes settled sediment, known as sludge, from the bottom of the boiler.

When the valve closes its design ensures tight shut-off with no leakage.

Opening the valve for longer than 2 seconds has no further effect at reducing blowdown and simply wastes water.
