Calcium Carbonate : CaCO3 is ground Limestone, which is used to increase the density of drilling fluids and serve as LCM and a bridging agent when ground to various particle sizes from 350 mesh to 30 mesh. It can be used in both water‐based and oil‐based drilling fluids.
Calcium Carbonate can be used to weight up drilling fluids to approximately 14.0 lb/gal., depending upon solids content and the base fluid, to balance formation pressures. Because of its acid soluble nature, it is used to seal permeable formations during workover operations.
